04-14-2010: Summer Organizers
This summer, Organizing for America is looking for students, recent graduates, and anyone else who believes in the power of community organizing, to help lead our grassroots movement here in Wisconsin. Summer Organizers will work directly with communities and volunteer leaders to recruit, train and mobilize volunteers to keep making change happen in 2010.
By participating in our Summer Organizers program, you will join a new generation of leadership that is changing our country. You will work as a real community organizer— the profession that launched President Obama’s public service career.
So many of you stepped up and organized your campuses and communities during President Obama’s presidential campaign. You knocked on doors, made phone calls, registered voters, and trained your peers. And over the last 14 months, thanks to many of your efforts, health insurance reform and student loan reform are now the law of the land. You made it happen.
But, make no mistake, we are just getting started. Change in Washington does not come easy. We will not achieve affordable education, financial regulatory reform, or create a clean energy economy unless we all work for it. It is up to all of us to fight back against special interests and make sure that our voice is heard. And there are critically important midterm elections that are only months away.
We need you this summer in Wisconsin!
Summer Organizers will be trained on the principles, strategies and tactics of effective grassroots organizing. Summer Organizers will be asked to commit to 40 hours per week and will:
 Organize communities in support of President Obama’s most important policy priorities
 Work as a team with Organizing for America staff, volunteer leaders, and fellow Summer Organizers to accomplish our goals
 Work to organize around the upcoming 2010 elections. Engaging voters who haven’t been involved in the political process before, or who only got involved for the first time in 2008
 Gain training and experience that will prepare them for a future career in organizing and other professions, with a focus on: strategic planning, issue organizing, coalition building, planning events and managing teams of volunteers.
 Our Summer Organizer program begins with a mandatory training on June 4th and concludes on August 15th.You can fill out the application online, but make sure you do it before our deadline at 11:59pm on April 21st. The position is unpaid. We strongly encourage you to apply early.
